POINT OF DELIVERANCE
“Then he [Jesus] said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?" (Luke 9:23-25)
This image is about absolutely surrendering my life to the Lord. When we fully surrender our lives to God we will experience deliverance from death, misery and addictions among other things. If we surrender our lives to Him as Lord, He will grant us eternal life.
Furthermore, we cannot fight our way to victory over addictions and bondage. I've personally fought with bondages and addictions myself for many years, and one thing I've learned well is that victory over these things is not a matter of conquering them but of surrender to God and trusting Him to manifest His victory within you..
The more we fight, the more we will find ourselves overpowered, defeated and worn out in the process because it is impossible for us to overcome these things in our own strength. (Even if we seemingly "overcome" the addiction, it simply manifests itself in another form in our life. We still remain slaves to bondage in some form.) God desires us to give up the fight and surrender to Him for He says, "'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty" (Zechariah 4:6).
The truth is that Jesus has already conquered these things through the cross and achieved the victory for us. The Bible says that when we surrender our lives to Him to do His will, His victorious life is made manifest in us. Our battle with these things is done and Christ's victory becomes our own. Absolute surrender to God is the key.
